Another Panama Canal May Not Be Needed

Profile photo for Fred Chuatiuco Fred Chuatiuco · Follow Former Healthcare CFOMar 5 If the USA takes over the Panama Canal, can China build an even bigger canal in Nicaragua? Thanks for the request. Another Panama Canal may not be needed. A more economical and efficient alternative is already being discussed between China, Brazil and Peru that should ultimately involve also Paraguay, Chile and Bolivia and then thereafter all of Peru’s northern neighbors. This is linking overland infrastructure to Peru’s Chancay Port that is the faster and cheapest way to ship goods to China. This is the "Interoceanic Highway" or "Trans-oceanic Highway," which connects Peru and Brazil, running east to west across the continent, primarily through the Amazon rainforest region; this road is considered the main land connection between the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of South America. This will profoundly change the way South America ships its goods to China . . . and bypass the Panama Canal. South America severely lacks infrastructure and this will be the start of more of such infrastructure that links all South American countries with greater social impact than just economics. Of course, this will be a boom BRICS and their vision of the Global South establishing a more dominant multipolar order world where emerging economies have bigger say in their own development.
