Do you know where the world’s largest Pyramid is located?

Most of us will start thinking about Egypt’s Great Pyramid of Giza, but that’s not true. This title goes to the Great Pyramid of Cholula. Mexico’s Pyramid of Cholula is an ancient Aztec temple in Puebla City, having a base about four times larger than Giza’s and nearly twice the volume.

This gigantic structure was overlooked as it was hiding under the grass, trees and soil…making it look more like a natural mountain.

History suggests that when Spanish explorer Hernán Cortez arrived in Cholula, the pyramid was entirely overgrown by vegetation, he considered it to be a mountain and unwittingly built a church right on top of it.

As per the BBC, it is not only the world’s largest pyramid but is also the largest monument ever constructed on Earth.

Known as Tlachihualtepetl, meaning ‘man-made mountain,’ this pyramid is believed to have been constructed around 300 BC. It is nearly 1,500 feet wide and about 200 feet tall.

The Great Pyramid of Cholula was discovered in 1910, when construction workers were building an insane asylum nearby. Archaeologists are putting forth efforts to fully excavate the pyramid. Over five miles (8 Kilometers) of tunnels have been dug inside the structure.
