Mexico: Extradition Of Sinaloa Cartel Leader Planned
The office of the Mexican attorney general plans to extradite recently recaptured Sinaloa cartel leader Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman Loera to the United States by the middle of 2016 to face drug trafficking charges, according to unnamed sources, Reuters reported Jan. 9. The precise timing, however, will depend on the injunctions filed by Guzman's legal representation. Guzman was recaptured Jan. 8 by Mexican security forces in Los Mochis, Sinaloa state, and is currently being held at Altiplano maximum-security prison, which he escaped from in July 2014. Regardless of the fate of this particular leader, Mexico's organized crime problem is greater than any single crime boss.
